GOODYEAR, ARIZONA SPRING ELECTION 2019
CANDIDATE PACKETS:
Candidate packets are available now. The Goodyear City Clerk is asking that those interested in running come in to meet so they can review the materials. Call for an appointment at 623-882-7830.
All documents for the packets are due to the City Clerk’s office no later than 5 p.m. on December 12, 2018. The earliest they can be submitted is November 13, 2018.

Primary Election on March 12, 2019

SPECIAL ELECTION:
Council referred three charter amendments to the voters for the same date so the election will also be termed a Special Election.
1. Proposed Goodyear Charter Amendment No. 1, Section 5 Time of Holding Primary and General Elections
Current elections are held in the spring of odd numbered years. The proposal going to the voters is to move the election to the fall of even-numbered years. If passed, the law will go into effect beginning in 2022.

2. Proposed Goodyear Charter Amendment No. 2, Section 6 Majority to Elect in Primary
The change to this charter amendment would clarify "that the calculation of the number of votes needed by a candidate to be elected to office at a primary election shall be based only upon the number of votes cast for that particular office, not the entire number of votes cast in the election as a whole."

3. Proposed Goodyear Charter Amendment No. 3, Section 13 Induction of Mayor and Council into Office
If passed, "newly elected members of the Goodyear City Council will be sworn into office at the first regular meeting in the month following a general election, not necessarily during the month of June."

Open Seats and Up for Re-Election:
Bill Stipp: Bill Stipp is up for re-election in the Spring Election 2019. If re-elected, it would be his 3rd term in office. He was elected in 2011 and 2015.
Sheri Lauritano: West Valley Families has confirmed Sheri Lauritano would be eligible to serve one more term if re-elected in 2019. She was appointed in March, 2010, to complete the term of former Councilmember Rob Antoniak. She was elected in 2011 and 2015.
Laura Kaino: Councilmember Kaino was appointed to the seat Joanne Osborne vacated in June. Kaino has expressed interest in running for the seat.
