ABOUT WEST VALLEY FAMILIES
JEN BARBER OWNER AND CREATOR WELCOME! I'm thrilled you found West Valley Families!
"West Valley Families - A Resource Guide" launched in 2014 as a way to help families find the fun happening in their communities. At the time, my goal was to provide all the great information about local events and to expand our reach on what's happening in the southwest cities of Avondale, Buckeye, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, and Tolleson. In these 10 years, numerous social media pages have popped up covering all of this information. With easy access to local events and happenings, spending my time consolidating the information here doesn't make sense any longer. My interest all along has been to understand what's happening here. AND WHY. |
Today, my focus lies on the more pressing issues facing our growing communities. The pandemic has shown us the importance of holding our elected officials accountable for their decisions impacting our daily lives. With little media coverage and inadequate communication from our leaders, especially in the schools, I've decided to go back to doing what I can to get answers for the public about what affects us most.
MY BACKGROUND
In 2003, I retired from broadcast news as a consumer investigations producer, became a stay-at-home mom, and moved my family to the southwest Valley. During my time in Goodyear, I've raised a kid, founded a nonprofit organization, held office as a city council member, volunteered as a volleyball mom, started up my own company, served a few years as a booster club president, spent two years on the Water Conservation Committee, advocated for a new fire station in my community, served on Goodyear's 2035 General Plan committee, graduated from Goodyear L.E.A.D. in 2023, and raised countless dollars for a variety of organizations.
I've met so many wonderful people who all have the same questions as I do. "What happens now?" Our daily lives have been turned upside down. Our children have missed out on two years of childhood experiences they'll never be able to get back.
People of all walks of life in the west Valley all experienced great loss during the pandemic. As we recover, I'm here to help residents understand how lawmakers are shaping our communities.
I'm happy to share what I learn about "our side" of the Valley with you while covering the continuing growth in our area. Because, I want to be prepared for what's next, too.
What would YOU like to see here? Don't be shy! Please drop me a line.
